I love hot intense color, and always reach for those pigments when painting, but while living and painting in Panama, a couple year ago, I created a beach sunset painting using softer colors.
At sunset the colors were muted and landscape details faded. Only a spectacular sky remained and I tried to capture that in this abstract painting with watercolor on paper.
This is Las Lajas Panama on the Pacific ocean side of the the Isthmus. A mostly deserted 17 mile long stretch of white beach with one small hotel with maybe 12 rooms.
Beautiful and pristine. It is quite an experience to be the only human for miles on a tropical beach.
